A Word From The Pastor.

Wait for the Lord; be strong and take heart and wait for the Lord. - Psalm 27:14 (NIV) When my wife got sick, I didn’t work for almost a year taking care of her. Of course, that was actually very hard work, but it didn’t pay anything and we were really struggling. After she died, I started sending out resumes and received very few responses. In fact, the one church that showed the most interest was a church in New Zealand. Go figure! So, I went back to laying brick, not because I wanted to, but because I needed to eat. And I waited on the Lord and tried to be strong. I applied for a position at VCU to become a Chaplain. After all, the Chaplains had been my spiritual rock whenever I went to the hospital with my wife. I sat before a panel of Chaplains, and answered questions and stated my goals for myself and they offered me, not a job, but an intern position which cost $1,400. Well, to me that was like a million dollars, but don’t you know my church came through and paid my tuition. I went on to become a Board-Certified Chaplain before returning to my home church as Pastor. I have to pinch myself every time I think about it – pastoring my home church. But I had to wait on the Lord’s timing and not mine. And while I waited, I didn’t just sit there and do nothing. I worked as a Chaplain and learned about grief, anguish, and pain. I sat with people in their worst possible moments, and mostly, I learned how to listen to them, really listen. Being a Chaplain made me a better Pastor, but I had to wait on the Lord.
